Ko Samet Trip

Filed at 10:10 am under Places Visited Thailand/East Thailand by tangcyee

Yeah! We went to Koh Samet this weekend due to the extra public last Friday, hence a 3 day break. We just eat, sleep, swim, swim, eat, sleep though not necessarily in the right order.

And yes, of all things that we have prepared on Thursday, the one and the most important thing that we forget…..THE CAMERA! Jeez.

Anyway, this trip is meant for relax, chill and do nothing, and we did just that. But one thing I do need to mention, though.

When we reached the pier, Ban Phe village, I knew that it will be kinda full but I am skeptical because I have done this before last time and I have to give it a try again. The lady at the pier selling the boat ticket was not helpful at all.

"No place to live yet? Sorry but you will probably have to take a boat back here in the evening" - in Thai, of course. Some encouragement.

Nevertheless, I get on board the boat anyway. Joanna loves it coz it is the first time she rides on a boat. Grinning and smiling all the way. The trip took us about 45 minutes to reach Nadan pier.

Once there, like the previous time, I went in search for a motorbike for rent and book the full day for 300 Baht. Then with the kids and SH waiting at the pier, I began my search for a resort.

I knew that the first few places, like Had Saikaew, Ao Phai, Ao tubtim are mostly full. These is because these places are mostly tourist area, both for the locals and the farang also.

Hence, I just rode nonchalantly across these places and go further down the island. I have stayed in Apache resort last time and I dont mind staying there again, so this time I rode all the way down to the lowest side of the island and began my search.

The first few hotels or resorts, incredibly speaking, is full. There is even one personal resort which belongs to some VVVVip but you can stay there if you want, for a price of 22,000 Baht (RM2,200) per night!

In the end, I reach back the middle and came back to Apache resort. My, the place sure has changed. Yes, they have vacant. Yippee! But it was one night for fan type room and the next for air con room.

Not willing to take any more risk, I took it, put all the bags in the room and bump the bike all the way back to the pier. Forgot to mention, these roads are no ordinary tar road. You have to be experienced enough to ride a bike otherwise, don't ever think about renting a bike. The roads are uphill and downhill, full of rocks and bumps. Going downhill, you can't brake both wheels, otherwise you will go tumbling down. Going uphill, you have to fully throttle the gas and go all the way up, no stopping.

Anyway, once at the pier, broke the good news to them happily. To the lady who sells the ticket, "Na na na na na" .

Jason hates the motorbike ride. Joanna loves it.

The first night was terrible. Cannot recall when was the last time slept inside a fan room and it was incredibly hot! Even the kids cannot tahan.

Midnight, I even crawled out of the bed and went outside the corridor to sleep there, Joanna followed later and snuggle under me.

The rain suddenly poured down, we have to rush back to the room, and of all things, electricity blackout! So doubly hot. So much for the holidays. Eventually I dozed off around 4am, I think.

Luckily, the next day, we got an air conditioned room and boy, everybody slept like a log!

The rest is nothing much, eat somtam, fish, seafood, drink, sleep near the beach, swim and it rotates just like that.

Awfully good break, doing just nothing. But, I discovered that we can actually take a boat directly to the nearest pier of the resort that we have booked.

On the second day, I made the pain to go around a few places in the middle of the island and get some name cards, then wrote it down on the boat map.

I decided to post this up, No 1, so that I can refer to it later in case I cannot find back the name cards, and No 2.

Yes, YOU can also use this as reference if you would like to go to Koh Samet in the future.

Great island, great place to relax, no cars allowed in the island, clear water. Well, a good place to recommend if you want a good break.
